Terms and Conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and Artifx SRL, the Romanian company that makes Focus98, for the Focus98 app, its online services and this website. Using them means you accept these terms.

1. What Focus98 is

Focus98 is a focus timer and app blocker for Android, played as a retro computer you keep running by focusing. It's a productivity tool and a game. It is not medical advice or treatment, including for ADHD; talk to a doctor about your health.

2. Who can use it

You need to be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it to agree to these terms yourself. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should agree to them with you.

3. Your account

  • You can play without an account. An account keeps your progress online, on any phone, and lets you use FocusChat and Focus Groups.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time, in the app (Settings, Account, Delete Account) or on the delete account page.

4. FocusChat, screen names and behaviour

Your screen name is chosen once and can't be changed. Don't pick a name, or send messages, that are offensive, hateful, harassing, sexual, impersonate someone, or break the law. Don't spam, cheat, or try to break, overload or get around the app's systems, including the leaderboard. We may remove content, reset a name or suspend an account that breaks these rules.

5. Credits and items

Credits, upgrades, programs, wallpapers and other items in Focus98 are part of the game. They have no money value, can't be bought with money, sold or exchanged, and stay with your account. We may rebalance prices and rewards to keep the game fair; we won't take away items you already own except to fix an error or for breaking these terms.

6. Focus98 Plus

  • Plus is sold through Google Play, as a one-time purchase ($24.99) or a yearly subscription ($7.99 a year). Prices may vary by country and include any taxes Google charges.
  • Payment, billing and refunds go through Google Play under Google's terms. We never see your payment details.
  • The yearly plan renews automatically until you cancel it in Google Play, Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Plus stays on until the end of the paid year.
  • The one-time purchase gives you Plus for as long as Focus98 is offered, on any phone you sign in to with the same account.
  • If a yearly plan ends, everything you bought with credits stays yours; only Plus content is locked again.
  • Plus is digital content delivered right away. If you live in the EU, you agree to that immediate delivery when you buy, which ends the 14-day right of withdrawal under EU law. This doesn't affect your rights if Plus doesn't work as described.

7. The early-access list

If you join the early-access list on this website, we'll use your e-mail address only to tell you when Focus98 launches, as described in the privacy policy. You can ask us to remove it at any time.

8. Permissions on your phone

App blocking needs usage access and permission to show the block screen over other apps; notification access lets deep-focus rounds pause blocked apps' media. You choose whether to grant each; without them, Focus98 works but can't block apps.

9. Changes and availability

We keep improving Focus98, so features may change, and online services may sometimes be down for maintenance or problems. We may stop offering Focus98; if we do, we'll give notice in the app, and if you bought the one-time Plus, you'll keep what's on your phone working as far as we reasonably can.

10. Ownership

Focus98, its design, text, code and artwork belong to Artifx SRL or its licensors. Some icons come from the Chicago95 project (GPL-3) and wallpapers from public-domain sources, credited in the app. You may not copy, sell or reverse-engineer the app except where the law allows it.

11. Responsibility

We work hard to make Focus98 reliable, but it's provided as it is. As far as the law allows, Artifx SRL isn't liable for indirect losses, lost data or lost time, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.

12. Ending

You can stop using Focus98 and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms; where we can, we'll tell you why first.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app or on this page before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Focus98 after that means you accept the new terms.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Romanian law. If you're a consumer in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim there. Please write to us first: most problems can be sorted out quickly.
