Retro wallpapers and 90s screensavers for your phone

By the Focus98 team · Updated

A teal desktop, a starfield screensaver, a pipe maze building itself in the dark. Focus98's desktop comes with the wallpapers and screensavers of each era, and you collect more as you go.

Wallpaper packs

Each era sells its own packs in the shop, made from real public-domain photos and our own pixel art:

  • Focus 98: Teal (calm water in the classic teal), Clouds, Space (NASA images of Earth and nebulae) and Tiles (pixel-art patterns).
  • Bluebird 2001: Aqua, all turquoise sea, reefs and waves, the water-and-sky look the Y2K years loved.
  • Chroma 2005: Nature, forests, aurora and mountain lakes behind glossy glass, in the spirit of Frutiger Aero.
  • Dawn 2010: HD, wide landscapes made for the big screens of the time.
  • A live wallpaper that slowly moves whatever picture is on the desktop.

The pictures appear in My Documents, Photos, and you set them from the image viewer or Settings, Display.

Screensavers

Leave the phone for a few minutes and a screensaver takes over: Starfield, Lines, Pipes, Marquee, or Random. You choose the wait, from 15 seconds to 30 minutes, and whether the phone stays awake while it runs. More come as extras in later eras.

The look of each era

Every era repaints the whole desktop: the windows, icons, sounds, fonts and the Start menu. Focus 98 is grey and teal; 2001 is rounder and bluer; 2005 is glass and gloss; 2010 is calm and translucent.

Note Focus98's eras and art are our own, made in the style of their years, not copies of any real operating system.

Questions and answers

Can I use the wallpapers outside the app?

They live inside Focus98's desktop. Most are public-domain photos, and their sources are credited in the app.

Which screensavers are there?

Starfield, Lines, Pipes, Marquee and Random, with more as extras.

What is Frutiger Aero?

A name for the glossy, sky-blue, water-and-glass look of mid-2000s tech. Focus98's 2005 era is made in that spirit.
